Parallel port for JR XP462 - Not nixin my computer or radio!!!

Saw one thread that someone messed up a 622 by using the wrong setup (or bad wiring maybe?) - I do not want to suffer the same fate. I found the .pdf (http://www.freebox.com/rasmus-modellfly ... /xp652.pdf) - it looks like it should work - but I am ignorant about things that I cannot see (i.e. electricity). I can make a lightbulb turn on - but read an ociliscop, forget it! I can solder, but I want to make sure I do not flock sumthin' up! Radios and computers do not grow on trees!
