why is that wings, rudder and stabilizer are normally made from single faces? At least the howto examples and available models look like that. Why they are not made from solid objects? Does the the difference makes any sense for the simulation engine of FMS?
Fuses look pretty solid.
I'm just starting in this business, so, I'm sorry if this is a recurrent question with a trivial answer.

A single surface would have half the faces of an object with 2 sides. It'd effect the model performance a little bit, but not a lot unless it was an unusually shaped surface. It's easy enough to make it 2 faces, just follow the tutorial for making a wing where you select the single face and use the [Pull] tool to make it into a 3D object. Don't forget to [Invert] the surface if you follow this method so the outside that was in is now out. Having 2 faces opens up the opportunity for different colors or image maps on either side.
Numerous polygons or large image maps cause more performance problems. Look at the first picture in the
