What would be the minimum HW requirement for FMS8?

I have a Celeron 800MHz desktop system with 256MB memory, the display memory is only 16MB. I know it is almost out of date, but this is the only desktop I have so far.

What are the major components which can boost up the view and feel of FMS? CPU, memory or something else?

I actually tried to install FMS7 on my laptop, but it was ugly. The screen moved so slow. FMS was totally not playable. My laptop has 750MHz PIII and 512MB memory.

greenbridge,

Buy the best 3D card for your machine (i.e. PCI AGP2, AGP4, etc.) preferably an Nvidia card not an ATI. It'll cost less than $100. Then upgrade to the latest DirectX. That's it. You should be OK with that setup.

I would like to install this on my father-in-law's PC but he only has an 8MB video card. I tried it on anold machine I have at home that has a 16MB video card and it still has the same problem(extremely bad frame rate). Can someone provide a complete "requirements list"?

Also,
The RealFlight G2 SIM only requires a 16MB video card and 128MB of RAM. Could it be that FMS has higher demands?.. or am I misunderstanding these requirements?

Your mileage may vary. You yourself state that a 16Meg card has low frame rates. Of course, graphics performance is dependent on the total package. CPU speed, bus speed, RAMDAC speed, etc. not just the amount of memory. Buy the biggest and baddest 3D graphics card you can afford.
