trvo, the export into .x doesnt do anything to the surfaces.
The smoothing is a setting of the materials you apply in the 3D-editor! And in Metasequoia you by default view the smoothed models if in shading mode...
But I'm more interested in models with a bit higher poly count because most actual PCs are fast enough to handle some hundret to some thousand polys. So why beeing minimalistic? :p

http://www.kdkuehn.de/modellwasserfliegen/fms.htm), you can see, that I too dont create models with extensive polygon counts, but I always try to have as many polys that I dont get this bad effects if smoothing has trouble with too less polys.
